Minister Crevits inaugurates the Improved Northern Access to the airport

Successful completion of first PPP infrastructure project in Flanders
This afternoon Flemish minister Hilde Crevits has officially inaugurated the new viaduct linking the Luchthavenlaan in Machelen with the Brucargo site. The Flemish Minister for Mobility and Public Works can justly be proud of the completion of this project since it is unique in three ways : it is the first completed START project, the implementation of the first of six selected missing links, and thirdly, the first project to be developed and completed through a new generation of PPP. "The realisation of this project will give a boost to the economy and employment of the airport region, on a local, Flemish and even European level. Along with the Cargo zone, Zaventem airport is an important economic driver yielding employment in this region and far beyond" according to Minister Crevits.

Works on Luchthavenlaan entering the final phase

On 23 January a last phase change will take place for the works on Luchthavenlaan and Haachtsesteenweg. For most directions nothing will change. Only traffic from the E19 from Brussels will have to take a new route. This traffic, which is currently arriving directly to the new fly-over, will have to make a small detour via Brucargo to reach its destination. On 25 February the works will be completed. Soon, you will be able to consult on the website www.START-projecten.be not only route maps for motorists but also the routes of De Lijn and routes for cyclists.

    A12 MEISE - WESTRODE

The Roads and Traffic Agency is working on a new access/exit slip road complex on the A12 at Meise-Westrode. Although A12 has the character of a highway, there are some intersections that do not belong to that type of road. The intersection with the Londerzeelsesteenweg and the Kerkhofstraat in Westrode is one of the locations that the Flemish government wants to address with priority. Due to road safety and the importance of this location as intersection, there will be a safe and efficient access/exit slip road complex is needed.

START

The Agency for Roads and Traffic is working on making the airport region and the Flemish periphery around Brussels more accessible and safer. This will be achieved through the implementation of three major infrastructure projects. The first project, which is currently being executed, involves the redesign of the Luchthavenlaan and the entries and exits complex of the E19 in Vilvoorde. The second project deals with the construction of a new entries and exits complex on the A12 at the Londerzeel - Meise - Westrode junction. Lastly, the overhaul of the ring road around Brussels will be implemented in the biggest project of them all.

You can keep track of the projects and works via this website, which will also feature the measures which have been taken in order to minimise disruption. These three projects are part of the 'START' action plan by the Government of Flanders, the aim of which is to further the development of the airport region in the long term.
